Despite the weather growing colder and conditions on Malmstrom becoming more hazardous, the Airmen of the 40th Helicopter Squadron are continuing to run winter weather training exercises.

Through its use of the UH-1N Huey, the 40th HS is able to perform aerial surveillance of Department of Defense strategic weapon convoys, short notice emergency security forces responses and provide rapid-response helicopter airlift support to the 341st Missile Wing. The Huey can carry up to 13 passengers, has a maximum weight of 10,500 pounds, a range of 300 miles, and can travel at a maximum airspeed of approximately 145 miles per hour. It's primary mission includes airlift of emergency security forces, security and surveillance of off-base nuclear weapons convoys, and distinguished visitor airlift.
