This year's Coalition Virtual Flag exercise began Sept. 11 at Kirtland's Distributed Mission Operations Center, and the Air Land Sea Application Center was on hand to provide academic briefings.

ALSA, located at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Va., is the lead organization in providing multiservice tactics, techniques, and procedures -- joint doctrine at the "tactical" level.

Maj. Clayton Laughlin, joint action officer with ALSA, was at Kirtland to meet with members of the 705th Combat Training Squadron.

"The DMOC's virtual flag exercises are a perfect venue to educate all services about ALSA and its mission," Laughlin said.

ALSA's mission is to rapidly and responsively develop MTTP publications and solutions across the spectrum of military operations to meet the immediate needs of the warfighter. Some of ALSA's key publications are JFIRE, Cordon and Search, Survival, Tactical Convoy Operations and Advising.

"These publications have been used by Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines and coalition forces who have deployed to support numerous operations and exercises," Laughlin said.

ALSA's publications are available to the entire military community at the ALSA website at www.alsa.mil. Those interested may sign up to receive ALSA's quarterly update, which provides links to the latest publications and articles focused on the joint warfighter.

"We welcome comments and recommendations for future MTTP which may fill a gap at the tactical level in conducting joint tactical operations," Laughlin said.
