Keeping stormwater clean is everybody's business

Rain water that falls on Kirtland flows over the land and over impervious surfaces, such as streets, parking lots, driveways, and sidewalks. This stormwater can pick up dripped vehicle fluids, cigarette butts, plastic bags, bottles, and other pollutants that flow into our gutters, arroyos, and storm sewers that eventually discharge to the Rio Grande River.

Stormwater is discharged untreated and can affect the quality of the water in the river for wildlife, recreational uses, and drinking water supply. It is the responsibility of the Kirtland community to ensure that stormwater is clean by helping to eliminate sources of pollution.

To report sources of pollution or for more information about the program, call the Kirtland Water Quality Program at 846-2522.
