National Prayer Breakfast to be held Friday Published March 25, 2014 By Adam Bailey 377th Air Base Wing Public Affairs KIRTLAND AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- Kirtland will host a National Prayer Breakfast at 7:30 a.m. Friday at the Mountain View Club. The breakfast is modeled after the National Prayer Breakfast event held on the first Thursday of February in Washington, according to Capt. David Dziolek, a chaplain at Kirtland. "We have government and community leaders come together, we look at our blessings and seek guidance in our future," Dziolek said. "Over the past few years, it has become popular for different countries, states and cities to host their own breakfast." Col. Steven Schaick, Air Education and Training Command command chaplain at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph, Texas, will be the guest speaker at the breakfast. Schaick, who will make a pastoral visit to the 58th Special Operations Wing today, entered the Air Force in 1976 as an F-15 integrated avionics specialist. He became an Air Force Reserve chaplain in 1985 and has been an active-duty chaplain since 1988. The breakfast will also include readings, video presentations and a performance by a Native American flute player. "This year for the breakfast, we wanted to focus on what we have in common, rather than what sets us apart," Dziolek said. Tickets for the event are $5 and can be purchased from the base chapel or through your first sergeant. For more information, call the chapel at 846-5691.
