Mountain View Club profits from new management Published April 2, 2014 By Adam Bailey 377th Air Base Wing Public Affairs KIRTLAND AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- The Mountain View Club has moved from troubled waters to a much better place. The club was in danger of closing because it was not generating a profit, according to Denis Hansard, 377th Force Support Squadron sustainment flight chief. Before fiscal year 2013, the club was steadily losing money. And it was losing more every year, he said. Hansard worked to repair the situation at the club with the help of Alma Alumbaugh, the club manager. Alumbaugh was brought on to run the club before fiscal year 2013 to help lower costs and to help the club make a profit. "We originally shrunk operations and expansions, stopped serving lunch and had fewer hours of operation," Hansard said. "We became very lean and mean with our operations." The club has worked at slowly introducing new and old programs to its schedule of events now that it's back on track, he said. "We learned to be more financially responsible. We learned to say no if we can't afford it and to keep track of programs to see if they are financially sustainable or if we need to eliminate them or make other adjustments," Hansard said. The club made $21,000 in profit last year and now, less than halfway through fiscal year 2014, has made $19,000. The Mountain View Club is part of the Air Force clubs located on bases all over the country to help support the community and serve as a location for official social functions and community-relations events. The club offers Sunday brunch, MVP Third Friday, Bingo and Buffet, Meals to Go, Monthly Family Nights and other events.
