Spouses' Club awarding college scholarships

KIRTLAND AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- The Kirtland Spouses' Club is awarding college scholarships to dependents of eligible members of the armed forces.

This includes those currently stationed at Kirtland Air Force Base or those whose sponsor moved to another duty station during the 2014-2015 school year, but the dependent remained.

All applicants must reside within a 50-mile radius of Kirtland, have a GPA of 3.0 or above and have been accepted at an accredited college, university or vocational school on a full-time basis for fall of this year.

Applicants should submit a 500-word essay on the topic "How has your association with a military member impacted your life so far, and how do you expect it will impact your life in the future?"

An application must accompany all essays, and the deadline for the materials to be postmarked is no later than March 30. Completed packages may also be dropped off at the KSC Thrift Shop, across from the base Bowling Center, on Monday, Wednesday or Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The club raises money for scholarships through the thrift shop, fundraising events and donations.
