The Kirtland Spouses' Club is preparing for a November food drive to benefit the food pantry at the base's Airman and Family Readiness Center.

The food drive will run Nov. 1-24. Dinah Dziolek, member-at-large for the KSC and wife of 58th Special Operations Wing Chaplain Capt. David Dziolek, said the pantry at AFRC is vital for military families hitting hard times or in crisis.

"The Airman and Family Readiness Center doesn't ask any questions when people ask for food," she said. "People could get embarrassed when bad things happen to them, so we're happy to help out this service that helps people if they get in a tough spot and need a little help."

The food drive will solicit donations of non-perishable food items -- canned food or dry-box items -- at 11 locations across the base. Those locations include the headquarters of the 377th Air Base Wing, the Base Exchange, Commissary, Youth Center, Mountain View Club, KSC Thrift Shop, 377th Medical Group, Kirtland Family Housing, the Base Chapel, Airman and Family Readiness Center and Kirtland Family Advocacy office.

Dziolek said the food drive is an annual event.

"Our mission as an Air Force is important, and the spouses' club tries to support that in any way we can," she said. "We try to help the AFRC every year and encourage people to donate to the pantry. For us, it's important that we help our own."

Dziolek added that the spouses' club has a number of upcoming events. A "Deck the Halls" holiday event is slated for Nov. 17, a Holiday Bazaar is happening Nov. 21 and the annual cookie drive for Airmen residing on base is scheduled for Dec. 14-15.

She also said KSC members are planning their part of the 75th anniversary commemorations for Kirtland.
