Kirtland officer wins Air Force-level achievement award Published Feb. 23, 2016 By Kendahl Johnson Kirtland Public Affairs KIRTLAND AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- An officer in the 898th Munitions Squadron was recognized by the Air Force Safety Center with the Air Force Nuclear Surety Outstanding Achievement Award. Capt. Anne Willey, Special Weapons Flight commander, received the award for her contributions towards the base's top priority of conducting safe, secure and effective nuclear operations. Among her many accomplishments, she led 158 Airmen in the maintenance, storage and safeguarding of the largest Protection Level 1 stockpile in the Department of Defense, worth more than $5.9 billion. She led the nation's three largest nuclear logistics movements and oversaw nearly 9,000 maintenance actions during 2015. Willey said she was surprised to learn she had won the award. "I wasn't expecting it," she said. "Of course I'm proud of the achievement and honored to have been selected, but I went up against a lot of great workers in the nuclear arena and I didn't expect to win the award." Lt. Col. Michael Power, 898th Munitions Squadron commander and Willey's supervisor, said she is a hard worker who is deserving of the award. "Captain Willey is an outstanding officer working in the most demanding flight commander position in the nuclear enterprise," Power said. "Her recognition as an Air Force-level award winner is well deserved and indicative of her dedication to the mission and her Airmen."
