The Air Force Personnel Center, Randolph AFB, Texas, announced earlier this week that applications are being accepted for the Olmsted Scholarship Program, White House Fellowship Program, Mansfield Fellowship Program and Information Assurance Scholarship Program.

The Olmstead Scholar Program provides an opportunity for Air Force officers to study a foreign language at an international university abroad. The purpose of the program is to provide an officer with an in-depth understanding of a foreign language and culture so they will be knowledgeable and sensitive to the viewpoints and concerns of people around the world as they progress with their Air Force career. The program involves cultural immersion by an officer and their family, if applicable, as well as study at the university in the native language.

Applicants do not have to be familiar with the country's language to be eligible for study in that country. Officers with demonstrated leadership and scholastic abilities are sought.

Members incur an active-duty service commitment equal to three times the length of training spent in graduate study in a foreign country, effective upon completion of the assignment.

Applicants' AF Form 3849 are due to AFPC/DPAFE no later than Aug. 17. Scanned forms may be e-mailed to afpc.dpafe.orgbox @randolph.af.mil. Remaining application documents must be mailed to AFPC no later than Oct. 31. Application and nomination guidelines about the program may be found at the

The White House Fellowship Program selects 11-19 citizens each year. Its purpose is to give highly motivated Americans an opportunity to gain firsthand experience in the process of governing the nation and a sense of personal involvement in the leadership of our society.

The President's Commission on White House Fellows is the sole selection authority for this program; however, military members are encouraged to apply through AFPC/DPAFE. DPAFE evaluates applicants for release.

Applications are due to AFPC/DPAFE no later than Aug. 17. Applicants' AF Form 3849 may be scanned and e-mailed to afpc.dpafe.orgbox@randolph.af.mil. Selectees will earn a master's degree from the Air Force Institute of Technology, the Naval Post Graduate School or the Information Resources Management College.

For this program, applicants will only submit AF Form 3849 to AFPC/DPAFE. Applicants are due no later than Aug. 17. Officers will be notified of their release/nonrelease by AFPC and authorized at that time to submit their formal application directly to the Mansfield Foundation.
