You've seen it in the headlines and most recently on the front cover of the "Air Force Times." Sexual assault is a problem in our society.

If you are on active duty or are a Department of Defense civilian employee, be a part of the solution by becoming a volunteer victim advocate. Victim advocates provide continued care and assistance to victims of sexual assault and serve as liaisons while providing support to victims to ensure they are not revictimized.

Volunteers are required to complete 40 hours of training, covering topics ranging from domestic violence and date rape drugs to investigative and prosecution procedures. The training also includes psychological concepts to better understand how to help victims of trauma.

The next training will be Sept. 24-28. For more information on how to become a victim advocate, contact Amy Pearson, sexual assault response coordinator, at 853-1957.
