FUN, FUN, FUN! N.M. bases celebrate Air Force 60th Published Sept. 10, 2007 By Sheila Rupp Nucleus Staff KIRTLAND AIR FORCE BASE, New Mexico -- Three New Mexico Air Force bases will come together Sept. 14 at the Sandia Resort to celebrate 60 years of U.S. air power. Kirtland AFB, Holloman AFB and Cannon AFB will observe "Heritage to Horizons," with a variety of events throughout the day to commemorate the Air Force's 60th anniversary. This anniversary celebration will definitely be a fun-filled day of events from a golf tournament to a formal ball and concert to conclude the evening. With all the special activities to take part in, there is some important information for members of Team Kirtland. Golf There is still time to get in on the fairway fun at the N.M. Air Force Bases 60th Anniversary Golf Tournament held at the Sandia Golf Club. The tournament begins at 7:30 a.m. Those interested in playing in the tournament should contact Maj. Son Nguyen, Air Force Operational Test and Evaluation Center, at 856-9598, or e-mail at son.nguyen@afotec.af.mil, or Dan Winckel, AFOTEC, at 853-7217. Indoor, Outdoor Exhibits Exhibits featuring Air Force and Department of Defense contractor capabilities and technologies will be set up inside and outside the resort. More than 35 displays will be set up, including historical uniforms and aircraft static displays. Exhibits include an F-16 simulator, Air Force NASCAR and military working dog demonstrations. Events will be open noon-5 p.m. at the resort, which is at the I-25 Tramway exit. All exhibits are family friendly. Performances/Special Events are between 1-3 p.m. · Air Force Drill Team Performance, amphitheatre · Pararescuemen jump over Sandia Resort · Aircraft Flyover Transportation on shuttle buses to and from the resort for the events will be provided. The exhibits have also been designated as an alternate duty location from noon-5 p.m. for the Nuclear Weapons Center. Members from associate units at Kirtland AFB need to ask their commanders about their unit's policy. Anniversary Dinner Reception The dinner reception is a by-invitation only event. All distinguished guests were notified of their status; if you were not notified of DV/VIP status, arrive early as seating is first come, first served. Dress for the evening is mess dress/semi-formal attire. If you have received a ticket to the dinner but are unable to attend, do not pass your ticket on to someone else. Tickets are by-invitation only and there are many people on the waiting list. If you are not able to attend notify your commander immediately so the ticket may be reassigned. Because of the number of people invited to the dinner, Col. Mohsen Parhizkar, 377th Air Base Wing vice commander and 60th anniversary celebration planning committee chairman, encourages attendees to arrive early to choose their seats, though seats can only be reserved for those already present. Groups that would like to sit together are encouraged to arrive together or have a meeting place to check in at the same time. The doors to the dining room will be closed at 6:55 p.m. in order to start the ceremony promptly at 7 p.m. Those who arrive after the doors close may be required to wait for a break in the ceremony to enter the dining room. Child care Today is also the last day to make reservations for child care at the Gibson Child Development Center or the Youth Center. Both facilities will be open 5:30 p.m.-midnight. The cost is $25 for each child and includes a light meal. Call the Gibson CDC at 846-1103 or the Youth Center at 853-5437 for more information or to make reservations. Event Transportation Pick-up/drop-off locations at Kirtland AFB: · East side billeting, Building 22016 · Dining Facility parking lot, Building 20350 · West side billeting, Building 918 Exhibit Transportation Beginning at 11 a.m. and continuing through 3:30 p.m., buses will pickup at east side billeting and continue on to the dining facility and west side billeting. Buses will run every 30 minutes to Sandia Resort. Return trips leaving from Sandia Resort will begin at noon and continue through 4:30 p.m. leaving every 30 minutes. There will also be stops at the 377th Medical Group. Buses will leave the medical group at 11:15 a.m., 1:15 p.m., and 3:15 p.m. Return trips to the medical group will leave Sandia Resort at noon, 2 p.m., and 4 p.m. Dinner Transportation Transportation to Sandia Resort for the dinner reception will begin at 5 p.m. and continue to 5:30, with buses leaving every 15 minutes. This route also includes the 377th Medical Group stop. Return trips leaving for Kirtland AFB will begin at 10 p.m. and continue to 11 p.m., with buses leaving every 30 minutes. The final bus will leave Sandia Resort at midnight. Those needing to be returned to the medical group should inform their drivers. If you miss your bus, you will need to wait for the next one, so please arrive early at the stops. The buses are on a first come, first served space available basis.
