Team Kirtland asked to volunteer Published Jan. 10, 2008 By Brian M. Young Air Force Research Laboratory KIRTLAND AIR FORCE BASE, New Mexico -- Team Kirtland has been asked to participate in the 2008 World to School event on Feb. 23 at the Albuquerque Convention Center. This is an opportunity to talk to 8th and 9th grade students about your career and to help them prepare for their future. The event will be held from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. and lunch will be provided. Set-up time is from 3-5 p.m. on Feb. 22. Military members can contribute to community activities and make a big impact with a minimal contribution of time. Volunteers are needed. At least two members from each organization are being asked to represent their career field. Visual aids and hands-on items are highly encouraged. These aid and attract the student's interest. Military volunteers may be paired up with civilians in related career fields. For example, members from emergency operations, medical, fire departments and security police will be positioned with their civilian counterparts. In the past, a security forces K9 handler and military working dog even provided a great working demonstration. You can register on line at www.schooltoworld.org/stw_presenterRegister.php. After registering, call 846-1332 or e-mail brian.young@kirtland.af.mil with your information on what visual aids you can contribute. This will determine what location you are positioned at and how much room your exhibit or demonstration will require.
