Civilian Career Enhancement Day: Professional development of civilian Airman critical to mission

The 377th Mission Support Squadron is sponsoring the next Civilian Career Enhancement Day from 8 a.m. on Jan. 28.

It will be held at the Phillips Presentation Center, building 201 on the west side of the installation at 1750 Kirtland Drive.

After opening comments, the main topic of the day, "Selling Yourself in Writing," will begin at 8:30 a.m. and end by 4 p.m.

The objective of this session is to assist employees with creating an effective resume and will focus on word content and will look at various formats.

This will include learning how to create an effective resume, explore different resume formats, write a cover letter and thank you letter.

The presenter of this briefing will be Nicole Reyes, recruiter for the Plus Group. Ms. Reyes recruits for positions in the Department of Energy and Sandia National Laboratories.

Ms. Reyes will be providing tips to help employees learn how they can take charge of their career development.

After a noon break, Tom Berardinelli, 377th Air Base Wing executive director, will provide a perspective on "Selling Yourself in Writing" as both an applicant and selecting official at 1 p.m.

"We need to continue to improve how we professionally develop our civilian Airmen," Mr. Berardinelli says. "Our goal is to provide the tools necessary for our workforce to improve their competitiveness for advancement and promotion. These Career Enhancement Days will help us do that."

From that briefing, at 2 p.m., a briefing on the civilian wellness program, this will provide information on how to be a healthy and more productive employee.

The day will conclude with a briefing at 3 p.m. on the services offered through the Employee Assistance Program.

Career Enhancement Day is considered an official function and employees should be allowed to attend without charge to leave pending supervisor approval and mission requirements. Employees may attend sessions which meet their schedules.

Military supervisors of civilians are also encouraged to attend these sessions. This will provide valuable information that can be used as you mentor your civilian Airmen.

On May 15 and Aug. 14, two additional career enhancement days have been planned to make sure civilian Airmen will have the tools necessary to accomplish their mission and also help prepare the next generation of leaders.

Tentative topics for May include writing good National NSPS assessments, an overview of the NSPS pay pool process, a briefing on Air Force Personnel Center application procedures for internal employees, and an overview of the balanced scorecard.

In August, topics will center on abuot financial management and professional military education for civilians.
