COMMENTARY: Thanks for honoring me with such a warm welcome Published July 25, 2008 By Col. Mike Duvall 377th Air Base Wing commander KIRTLAND AIR FORCE BASE, New Mexico -- I would like to begin by extending my sincere thanks to Team Kirtland for the warm welcome extended to me and my family as we transitioned to our new assignment. The base support for our relocation has been outstanding. My entire family is excited about our move to Albuquerque and look forward to enjoying a great job in a fantastic location. I am humbled and honored to be the commander of the 377th Air Base Wing. Not only am I fortunate enough to have the greatest job in the Air Force, leading Airmen as a wing commander, I truly look forward to interfacing with our mission partners and community leaders. In addition to an outstanding reception from the wing, my family also received a friendly welcome from Terri Cole, the 377th ABW honorary commander and Dave Seely, chairman of the Kirtland Partnership Committee. This welcome was indicative of the positive base and community relationship fostered by Col. Robert E. Suminsby. My intent is to build upon the collegial, professional working relationships with our mission partners and community leaders in order to improve the base and community. The incredibly diverse missions performed at Kirtland rely on the effectiveness of the 377th ABW. During my tour as commander, this wing will remain focused on the missions of supporting the Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center, providing support to our Mission Partners and preparing Airmen to deploy to support the U.S. global war on terrorism. My belief is that these critical missions can only be accomplished by a professional organization that works as a team and has high standards. My goal is for the 377th to improve daily - that when I depart Kirtland, the air base wing is more professional, a better team and achieves higher standards of performance. Thanks to all of you for our warm welcome and for serving in the defense of our great nation.
