The Kirtland Federal Credit Union was honored for being named the 2007 Outstanding Air Force Credit Union during a ceremony at the Mountain View Club Aug. 27.

KFCU competed against 26 other credit unions from all over the world and was announced the winner on Aug. 7

"It is an honor to recognize Kirtland Federal Credit Union for the above and beyond, first-class support it provides to Kirtland AFB on a continuous basis," said Col. Michael Duvall, 377th Air Base Wing commander. "KFCU is an invaluable partner with Team Kirtland and is clearly committed to improving the quality of life of Kirtland personnel."

KFCU supports the base in a number of ways, including extensive financial education to Team Kirtland members through regular briefings, educational workshops and First Term Airman briefings. KFCU also has a positive impact on Airmen morale and welfare by offering deployment loans, loan extensions and educational support programs for deployed personnel and their families.

"KFCU's exemplary level of service, financial training for our Airmen and willingness to partner with the Air Force placed [them] head and shoulders over the competition," wrote Richard Gustafson, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Financial Operations in a letter to KFCU.

Along with financial education and loan programs, KFCU also focuses much of its efforts on combating predatory lending practices by offering low cost alternative loans, educating Airmen on the pitfalls of payday borrowing, participating in public awareness interviews with local news media and provided testimony at state legislature hearings.

"KFCU has partnered with Kirtland AFB for more than 50 years and we are honored to serve those who serve our nation," said David Seely, KFCU president. "We are committed to providing excellent financial services, education and support to our military members and look forward to supporting the base in the years to come."
