H1N1 (Swine) flu update, April 29 Published April 29, 2009 KIRTLAND AIR FORCE BASE, New Mexico -- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention increased the number of cases of H1N1 Flu in the United States to 64 as of yesterday. The cases are still in the 5 states where the outbreak was originally detected. News media sources are reporting that a 23-month-old child in Texas has died from the illness. There are still no confirmed cases in New Mexico. In addition to the U.S., cases have been found in Mexico, Canada, Spain, the United Kingdom, France, Scotland and New Zealand. Centers for Disease Control has designated the proper name for this influenza outbreak as H1N1 and has dropped the use of the name Swine Flu. There has been no change in the World Health Organization Pandemic Flu phase 4, which means that there are small clusters (groups of infected individuals) with some limited human-to-human transmission of the virus. The virus spread is highly localized, suggesting that the virus is not well adapted to humans.
