NM Environment Department Inspection Yields No Findings Published March 31, 2010 By Penny Huston 377 Air Base Wing Public Affairs Kirtland Air Force Base, NM -- A team from the New Mexico Environment Department arrived the week of March 8 for Kirtland AFB's annual no-notice hazardous waste inspection. The team did an extensive review of both Kirtland AFB's records and waste management locations. Sites inspected included over 130 hazardous waste accumulation points, the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Range, the Bulk Fuels Yard, contractor yards, fluorescent bulb collection points and the hazardous waste storage building. For the first time in 10 years, the inspection resulted in "no findings." "I couldn't be happier about our no-finding inspection -- what a great reward for the installation-wide team who worked so hard to make this happen," said Jennifer Dann, chief, Compliance Section, 377th Civil Engineer Division. "Best yet, we've shown that the procedures and practices we've implemented work and can keep our momentum going." The effort of organizations, unit managers and individuals, base-wide, to bring the waste management program into compliance with state regulations was recognized by senior base leadership. "To bring any installation to this level is impressive; to bring such a large, diverse installation to this level, and in an era of such extreme scrutiny is absolutely monumental," said Col. Matthew Bartlett, 377th Mission Support Group Commander.
