Kirtland AFB Officials Give Bulk Fuels Plume Update Published May 10, 2010 By Base Public Affairs 377th Air Base Wing Public Affairs Kirtland Air Force Base, NM -- Media Advisory Release #10-15 Kirtland officials provided an update on the bulk fuels plume this morning to the Siesta Hills Neighborhood Association. Approximately 50 residents attended the meeting. Col. Matthew Bartlett, 377th Mission Support Group commander, opened the meeting and introduced the Kirtland Team, to include the 377th Air Base Wing commander, Col. Robert L. Maness. The Air Force-contracted subject matter expert gave an update of Air Force remediation actions taken, to include the placement of monitoring wells and testing results. A copy of the briefing, to include a conceptual site model of the plume and the surrounding geology, is attached. Following the briefing, base officials answered questions from the residents. Colonel Maness closed the briefing by reiterating the Air Force's commitment to continue to work with local, state and federal agencies to determine the most effective and efficient approach to remediation of the fuel plume. The Air Force holds six public meetings throughout the year to provide updated information on this and other environmental issues. The next quarterly Citizens Advisory Board meeting will be Wednesday, May 19, at 6: p.m. at the Caesar Chavez Community Center.
