The Kirtland Associated Casualty Area Members installed their new officers at a ceremony Saturday, May 1.

Col. Barbara J. Jorgensen, 377th Air Base Wing vice commander, officiated the ceremony.

The organization is made up of approximately 142 members who all share a common bond: they are the widows or widowers of military veterans who served 20 or more years in service to our country.

The organization has been in existence for more than 30 years and, as a result of the increase of women serving in the military, opened up its membership to men (widowers) about five years ago.

The purpose of the organization is to unite eligible members, promote public awareness of problems and needs of military spouses and dependents, and encourage friendships and social activity among the members.

The group meets nine months out of the year, every first Saturday of the month at 10 a.m. in the base chapel annex. Their meeting in June will include a pot luck and silent auction.
