An interactive workshop aimed at reducing the number of traumatic alcohol- and drug-impaired mishaps among young drivers is coming to Kirtland AFB for three days. Two paramedics will conduct three live one-hour "Street Smart" presentations at the base theater each day from June 28-30. The first session starts at 8 a.m., the second at 10 a.m. and the third at 2 p.m.

The pair of rescue workers will take the audience through what happens at a trauma scene while demonstrating the medical equipment they use on the job every day. The goal is to show viewers the real-life drama of trying to save the lives of underage drinkers and illegal drug users. The audience will be thrust into the scene of an alcohol- or drug-related mishap and will be able to see and feel what it's like to try to save a life ... and what it's like to be the victim.

Attendance at one of the "Street Smart" sessions is mandatory for active-duty Airmen age 26 and under assigned to the 377th Air Base Wing and subordinate units. Other active-duty Airmen, federal civilian employees and contractors are strongly encouraged to attend.

Attendees should pre-register online for the session of their choice at the 377th Air Base Wing Safety Office Community of Practice at https://www.my.af.mil/afknprod/community/views/home.aspx?Filter=OO-SE-MC-03.
