The plans outline the actions proposed by the Air Force and its contractor, Shaw Environmental and Infrastructure, Inc., in response to NMED's letters of April 2 and Aug. 6, to remediate the fuel plume at the bulk fuel storage facility. The plans address the groundwater investigation; vadose zone investigation; and interim remediation measures, consistent with NMED's requirements. They are available on the Kirtland public website at http://www.kirtland.af.mil. "The contractor is ready to begin work within 24 hours of NMED approving the plans," said Col. Robert Maness, 377th Air Base Wing commander. "The Air Force shares a common goal with all of our neighbors, including NMED - to remediate the fuel plume as quickly as possible."
