The 377th Logistics Readiness Squadron recently received the National Defense Transportation Association's 2010 Military Unit Award.
The NDTA is a non-profit organization comprised of government, military and industry experts in transportation and logistics.
NDTA Military Unit Awards are presented annually to a logistics unit from each military service which has accomplished unusual and outstanding service. Each service selects its recipients.
"The 377th LRS' mission is unusual because Team Kirtland has such a wide variety of missions," said Phillip Presley, 377th LRS Flight Deployment and Distribution chief. "We have a lot of people doing extraordinary things."
The NDTA recognizes several organizations and individuals annually in various categories.
"This is by far the most award winning LRS I have ever been a part of," said Alan Hawn, 377th LRS Distribution Section chief and 25-year logistics professional. "The teamwork and leadership is exceptional."
In addition to receiving the 2010 Military Unit Award, the 377th LRS was awarded Air Force LRS of the Year in 2009.
"We get the base where they need to go, whether it's moving household goods or deploying Airmen," said Mr. Presley. "The men and women of this squadron work extremely hard and never stop learning."
The 377th LRS has approximately 175 Airmen supporting 20,000 Team Kirtland members. It also manages and maintains more than 450 vehicles worth $39 million.
In 2010, the 377th LRS decreased its response time for taxi requests, surpassing the Air Force standard by 30 percent, had no discrepancies during several inspections, and provided support for President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden during separate visits to Kirtland AFB.
"There are missions this squadron performs every day that go unnoticed," said Mr. Hawn. "We have a lot of people doing extraordinary things, so I believe they are truly deserving of this award."
