Kirtland officer receives award Published May 16, 2011 By Stefan Bocchino 377th Air Base Wing Public Affairs Kirtland Air Force Base -- Maj. Johnathan B. Zulauf, 377th Force Support Squadron deputy director, was named the Manpower and Personnel Force Support Field Grade Officer of the Year for Fiscal Year 2010. Major Zulauf was cited for his leadership during his deployment to Afghanistan, his work in preparing the 377th Air Base Wing command post for a Nuclear Surety Inspection re-inspection, bringing it from having major write-ups to a MAJCOM standard in two months, before going back to FSS as the deputy director. "I am humbled in receiving this award," said Major Zulauf. "The Airmen I worked with during this time share in this award. Without them buying into the mission, vision and goal, nothing would be accomplished. Everything they did was amazing." During his deployment to Afghanistan, Major Zulauf also earned the Bronze Star Medal when he helped stop an armed attempt to seize U.S. assets. He was also cited for his work on self-improvement and community involvement. "They say you have to lead by example, but you are only one person," said Major Zulauf. "Without the hard work of the Airmen I worked with, we would not have accomplished so much. Many of them worked long hours and their dedication showed the Air Force core values of service before self in getting the mission done. This award is all about the Airmen."
