The Kirtland Federal Credit Union was named the 2010 Air Force Credit Union of the Year for providing exemplary financial and quality of life services to military and civilian members.

In a letter from Dr. Jamie M. Morin, Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for financial management and comptroller, KFCU was recognized for going above and beyond by providing the Air Force community superior financial education and customized services. Additionally he said that KFCU demonstrated excellent customer service and responsiveness.

"The credit union was thrilled to hear that we had once again received the Air Force Credit Union of the Year award," said Dave Seely, president and chief executive officer of KFCU. "We knew we prepared a very good application, but also knew we would face stiff competition from other credit unions serving the Air Force around the world."

KFCU previously received the award in 2007. The credit union has served a niche focused around Kirtland Air Force Base since it was chartered in 1958. Since it began operations, there have been tremendous changes affecting the members of the credit union, according to Seely. He said the institution has succeeded in staying engaged while supporting members through those changes.

Among highlights in Dr. Morin's letter were the outstanding levels of community outreach, financial training for Airmen, and employee's volunteer initiatives that placed the credit union head and shoulders above the competition. He also said that the initiatives, coupled with a continuous dedication to customer communication, financial education and multiple quality-of-life programs and events, demonstrated dedication to the Kirtland AFB community.

"Getting this award is a real honor, because it validates our efforts to take care of the Airmen, as well as family members and others," said Seely. "It is a recognition by Air Force officials that we are doing our job in supporting the troops and responding to their needs. We like to say that we are a financial 'wingman' to our members, and this award tells us that we are being effective in that effort."
