Team Kirtland passes nine inspections Published Sept. 23, 2011 By Marie Vanover 377th Air Base Wing Public Affairs KIRTLAND AFB, N.M. -- More than 90 inspectors conducted nine synchronized inspections here, including an Operational Readiness Inspection, from Sept. 8 to 20. The Air Force Materiel Command Inspector GeneralTeam evaluated the installation's capability to perform its wartime missions and react to multiple crisis situations. Col. David Hornyak, 377th Air Base Wing vice commander, said "This number of concurrent inspections was a first in AFMC history -- everyone should be proud of the results." "We achieved a 'win' in every one of these inspections. The professionalism, motivation and positive attitude displayed by everyone was simply superb," added Col. Don Conley, 377th Mission Suppor t Group commander. The nine inspections included the following: Rated inspections : Limited nuclear surety inspection of both the 377 ABW and the 898th Munitions Squadron; a safety inspection across the installation; a logisticscompliance assessment program of the 377 ABW and 498th Nuclear Systems Wing; and an ORI of the Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center (which includes the 377 ABW and 498 NSW), and Air Force Research Laboratory, Detachment 8. Non-rated inspections: Environmental and occupational health across the installation and an initial nuclear surety inspection. Kirtland AFB met performance requirements in all the inspections, including achieving the highest possible ratings in four of the inspections. During the outbrief, the IG recognized Airman 1st Class Carl Schneider, 377th Medical Operations Squadron, and presented him with an IG Coin for performing at a level that far exceeded his rank. The 498 NSW commander, Col. Walt Lindsley, said, "This is a testament to the dedication and professionalism of everyone across Team Kirtland. The results speak for themselves ... we made history -- nine and zero." The AFMC Inspector General recognized 20 individuals across Kirtland and four teams for outstanding performance.
