Kirtland Inn hosts Housekeeping Olympics Published Oct. 7, 2011 By Stefan Bocchino 377th Air Base Wing Public Affairs KIRTLAND AFB, N.M. -- As part of International Housekeeping Week, Kirtland Inn held its Housekeeping Olympics Sept. 29 at Millennium Park. "We developed the Housekeeping Olympics here at Kirtland in 2002," said Steve Holland, Kirtland Inn general manager. "Now it's part of every lodging operation around the Air Force." This teambuilding event's focus is on the housekeepers, according to Holland. However, the maintenance staff and others also compete. Some of the events use the skills required for the job, but mostly it's just a fun day, he said. "The housekeepers here do an incredible job," said Holland. "We just finished our accreditation evaluation last week, and out of more than 1000 points on this intense checklist, they gave up six points, which is phenomenal. We have 468 rooms scattered around 14 different buildings all over Kirtland Air Force Base." The event encompassed food, competition and entertainment. "This is a great way to unwind together as a team and also to honor our housekeeping personnel," said Holland. "Everyone had a really great afternoon."
