If you've passed by the skate park behind the Youth Center on Pennsylvania Avenue on Mondays and Fridays between 4 and 5:30 p.m., you may have seen a group of people playing hockey, complete with fully geared-up goalies.

The idea to play street hockey started in 2007, when AFOTEC hockey enthusiasts decided to do something different for their unit PT.

The games have since expanded to include players from other units on base.

Everything started with low-tech equipment that used boxes as goalies, cheap plastic sticks and goals that were in disrepair. It has evolved to include gear to dress two goalies, better sticks and improved goals.

We're always looking for more people who'd like to play. You don't need any hockey experience to play -- you just need the desire to have some fun.

If you're looking for a great cardio workout that you enjoy, then look no further. This activity burns on average about 650 calories per hour, based on the player's weight, playing time and intensity.
The details of the street hockey group are as follows:
Rules:
· Non-check games
· Other rules of play will be explained before each game
· The main goal is to have fun!

What to wear and equipment to bring:
· Weather-appropriate clothing and a sturdy pair of athletic shoes
· Personal protective equipment, such as an athletic cup, shin guards, gloves, mouth guard and other PPE
· Hockey stick (Extra sticks are available if you don't have one. Local sporting goods stores have a supply of hockey sticks and other gear.)
