FSS to hold résumé-writing class Published July 11, 2012 By Danny Monahan 377th Air Base Wing Public Affairs KIRTLAND AFB, N.M. -- The 377th Force Support Squadron will offer a résumé-writing class from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Airman and Family Readiness Center. "The class is an opportunity to discuss the basic rules of developing a private-sector résumé," said Teresa Reinhard, 377 FSS. "Our staff is available to guide people along the process to develop a professional, well-crafted document that will highlight their knowledge, skills and abilities for an employer." Experienced and first-time résumé writers can benefit from attending. "The class will provide some new information. Even if you already have a current résumé, you can bring it to the class to get feedback about how to make it stronger," said Reinhard. "The rules of what makes a good résumé change over time. For example, the statement 'references available upon request' is no longer necessary. " In the classroom, participants will work together to enhance one another's résumés if they bring one, or will review other resumes from previous class participants. "As a group, we critique résumés, to learn about the strengths and weaknesses of various résumé styles. It helps to see actual examples of how to make a strong, effective résumé," said Reinhard. Participants will also learn the value of posting their résumés on professional social media sites, such as www.linkedin.com and employment search engine sites, such as www.indeed.com. "We are always available to assist on a one-on-one basis, to provide feedback and guidance on how to write a résumé, as well as provide help with cover letters, job searches and interview tips," said Reinhard. "Lately, I have received a couple of requests to help with military résumés, which active-duty members use to assist them in getting their next assignment. We also provide a monthly class on federal résumé assistance, which is a very different from a private sector résumé." In addition, Team Kirtland will host a job fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 19 at the Mountain View Club. "We invite those who have base access to come dressed to interview and to bring several copies of their résumé," said Reinhard. The 377 FSS holds the résumé-writing class each month.
