Team Kirtland Airman runs the Air Force Half-Marathon Published Oct. 5, 2012 By Jonathan Rejent Nucleus Staff Writer Kirtland Air Force Base -- An Airman from Kirtland Air Force Base was one of eight Airmen representing Air Force Materiel Command during the half-marathon Sept. 15 at Wright-Patterson AFB. Despite being misdirected and running the wrong direction for a mile, Senior Airman Anne Price, 898th Munitions Squadron, finished the half-marathon with a time of 1 hour, 45 minutes, 25 seconds. "I am still proud of my time, even though we had to run a little extra," Price said. Price's path to her position on the AFMC team began after meeting Zac Holmes, who was working at the Fitness Assessment Cell here. Holmes had recently formed a running group, and invited Price to join. "The guys on the team told me about the AFMC half-marathon team," Price said. Price said her running group friends -- Zac Holmes, Monte Murillo, Joe Medley, Monica Vega, Sarah Askey, ABQ Road Runners and her husband, Matt Price -- convinced her to apply for the team and submit her half-marathon times. Murillo and Medley ran the men's half-marathon for AFMC in 2011. "Without them, this would have just been a thought. They helped me turn this thought into a goal, and that goal into an achievement," she said. Within a few months, Price said she got the call -- she had made the team and said she was thrilled. "I told the person who called me that he had just made my day," Price said. Price said she initially began running in college. Within eight years, she said runs increased from less than five miles per week to about 40 miles per week. "In 2007, someone told me I ran way too much and I was going to burn myself out in a year. It still makes me laugh, to this day," Price said. Price said she plans to apply for the AFMC team again next year, but even if she isn't accepted, she'll likely go on her own. "The crowd support is awesome, the base is huge and the race is packed with great people," she said.
