The 58th Special Operations Wing recently welcomed more than 60 Air Education and Training Command inspectors for an in-depth look at its processes and programs. The Consolidated Unit Inspection is mandated by Air Force Instruction 90-201.

For the 58 SOW, it entailed three inspections at once: a Compliance Inspection, a Logistics Compliance Assessment Program, and an Aircrew Standardization and Evaluation Visit.

Col. Vince Becklund, the 58 SOW commander, shared the overall grade of "Excellent" with the wing's more than 2,000 aircrew members, maintainers and contractors Oct. 23 during a Warrior Call.

Inspectors observed everything from maintenance on CV-22 Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft to aerial delivery teams recovering airdropped loads from MC-130H aircraft dropped at night by crews using night vision goggles.

The AETC IG lead, Col. Kenneth Frollini, praised the 58th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron for earning an "Outstanding" overall rating in the LCAP.

"The 58 AMXS led the way with an impressive performance, highlighting the workforce's strong establishment of a culture of compliance. Their performance score was one of the highest in AETC LCAP history."

On the operations side of the house, the inspectors called the 58 SOW aircrew cadre "the top instructor corps" they've ever seen. More than 400 distinct evaluations in-flight and on the ground resulted in zero findings for aircrew performance in the ASEV.

The successful completion of the inspection validates what the 58 SOW commander said he already knew.

"We've brought the best instructors and maintainers from across the Air Force to execute our goal of training mission-ready aircrew for future leadership across the Air Force. I'm proud to lead this great team," Becklund said.
