Military, civilian use or lose leave Published Nov. 21, 2012 KIRTLAND AFB, N.M. -- MILITARY A recent change has been made to Section 504 of the National Defense Authorization Act. Previously, all active-duty, Reserve and Guard members could carry up to 75 days of leave forward to Oct. 1, 2013. This has now changed. Any leave more than 60 days as of Sept. 30, 2013, will be lost on Oct. 1, 2013, unless part of the balance is Special Leave Accrued. The Office of the Under Secretary of Defense is pursuing a statutory extension to the maximum leave carryover, but it has not yet been passed. Leave and Earnings Statements will not reflect the new carryover for several months. For more information about Special Leave Accrued under AFI 36-3003, Military Leave Program, contact the 377th Force Support Squadron's 1st Lt. Amy McInteer at 846-5518 or Amy.McInteer@kirtland.af.mil. CIVILIANS The 2012 civilian employee leave year ends Jan. 12, 2013, and Air Force Personnel Center officials remind civilians that those who have more than the maximum carryover hours of annual leave on that date risk losing their leave. The maximum carryover ceiling is 240 hours for stateside employees, 360 hours for overseas employees, and 720 hours for senior executive service, senior level positions, and scientific or professional positions. All use or lose leave must be scheduled and approved in writing before Dec. 1.
