Police Week activities to offer something for everyone

Police Week kicks off May 11 and Kirtland is set to celebrate with a full slate of activities.

The festivities launch with an event at Marquez Park from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Photo opportunities will abound with vehicle displays, military and civilian K9s, weapon displays and McGruff the Crime Dog. There will also be a child safety and a weapons safety information booths.

May 11 and 12 there will be a video game tournament beginning at 10 a.m. in the Security Forces Day Room. Early registration is $10, with a $5 increase for registration the day of the tournament. Games include Modern Warfare III and Madden '13.

May 13 will be a Cops and Coffee Drug Identification Seminar at 8 a.m. at the Base Theater. Free coffee and donuts will be provided.

There will be a four-person scramble golf tournament at Tijeras Arroyo Golf Course May 15. Registration is 9 a.m. with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. Cost is $50 per player and includes cart, golf and lunch.

There will be bake sales May 15-17 at the Base Exchange, Commissary, Consolidated Support Building and Eastside Shoppette. Donations are also welcome.

There will be a shooting competition from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Coyote Canyon. Cost is $20, with prizes for first, second and third place. Pre-registration is required. The event is open to all active duty, Reserve, Guard and retired military, and all state and federal law enforcement officers, past or present. Only duty pistols will be utilized.

A slate of softball activities will take place May 17-19, including a tournament, homerun derby, infielders challenge, outfielders challenge and speed demon challenge. Pre-registration is required with a cost of $150 per team.

There will be a dodgeball tournament May 18 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Eastside Tennis Courts. The entry fee is $30 for a six-person team, with prizes for first, second, and third place. There will be a special prize to the best team theme. Pre-registration is required.
