"Security is a paradox -- the more it succeeds, the less it appears."

This is the way Steven Forcier, recipient of the Air Force Materiel Command's 2012 Information Protection Specialist of the Year award, summarizes his job.

Forcier has made a large impact on information protection at Kirtland as chief of information security.

Among numerous accomplishments, his IP SharePoint site is the "go-to" site for security manager's checklists, handbooks, guides, training, forms and publications, and his efforts have contributed to a 34 percent decrease in security incidents across Kirtland in 2012 from 2011.

"What it boils down to is that I'm just doing my job," Forcier said. "I enjoy my work and I'm very pleased to win this award and I'm humbled that my boss, Dave Woods, put the nomination package in for me."

After 22 years of active duty service, Forcier has been working with Team Kirtland for 11 years as a civilian, making various contributions and striving to help make positive changes.

"He is known throughout Team Kirtland. There isn't one place that hasn't been affected in some way by his work," said Dave Woods, Information Protection chief. "This award is a tribute to his hard work and shows what an impact he has made here and I'm glad that he has been recognized for that work."
