Team Kirtland welcomes Col. Troy A. J. Brashear Published June 20, 2013 By 377th Air Base Wing Public Affairs KIRTLAND AFB, N.M. -- Team Kirtland welcomes Col. Troy A. J. Brashear as the Director, Space Development & Test Directorate and commander, Space & Missile Systems Center, Detachment 1, Kirtland Air Force Base, N.M. The directorate's mission is to deliver small, responsive space capabilities to users across the national security space community. Col. Brashear leads a combined team of more than 500 military members, federal employees and contractors responsible for development, acquisition, demonstration, launch, test and operations of Defense Department and civil space systems. The colonel received his commission from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1992. He has commanded at the flight, squadron and group level. He has operational space experience with the 12th Space Warning Squadron, Thule Air Base, Greenland, and as the space liaison officer to the Combined Forces Air Component Commander, Operation Northern Watch, Incirlik AB, Turkey. His acquisition assignments include the Space and Missile Systems Center, Los Angeles AFB, Calif., and the National Reconnaissance Office, Chantilly, Va. Col. Brashear has had staff assignments on the Air Staff, the Office of the Secretary of Defense and the Joint Staff. He was also a United Nations Military Observer during the Ethiopia-Eritrea conflict. Col. Brashear is Level III qualified in Program Management, Systems Planning Research Development & Engineering, Communications/Computers, and Test & Evaluation.
