The 377th Security Forces Squadron Pass and Registration section is successful in servicing and protecting the Kirtland populous by issuing DBIDS passes, and processing all restricted area badges for those requiring access to the flight line.

The team maintains their mission in three different locations, the Consolidated Support Facility, Truman Gate Vehicle Control Center and the Innovation Parkway Office Center, servicing those all over the base.

“We service nine wings, 110 mission partners, approximately 3,125 military members, 1,068 guard and reserve members, 12,001 Sandia National Labs personnel and 1,068 none appropriated funds and Army Air Force Exchange employees,” said Tech. Sgt. Sergio Griffin, 377th SFS Pass and Registration NCO in charge. “We also coordinate and approve base access lists, this assists customers by cutting down the time it takes to process individuals onto the installation.”

According to Master Sgt. Heather Geer, 377th SFS, S5 superintendent, the pass and registration office’s primary objective is ensuring personnel is clear of any warrants or felonies prior to allowing them access to the installation. They utilize the National Criminal Information Center database in the vetting process, this database helps them apprehend fugitives, locate missing persons, recover stolen property, and identify terrorists. It provides information necessary to protect the public.

Griffin and his team process more than 200 patrons a day for base access and an additional 60 applying for restricted area badges. The pass and ID office also does its part for their fellow Defenders at the gates, by registering individuals in the Defense Biometric Identification System.

The Defenders’ customer service ethos is “treat the customers with respect and dignity.”

“When you go somewhere and need assistance you want those assisting you to genuinely care” said Griffin. “We are the first line of defense of the base and we are the first faces they see on Kirtland, we set the tone.”

According to Griffin, following their office mantra of “showing respect to all of their customers,” garnered their team recognition and awards. The Pass and Registration office won the 2018 SFS Team of the Year; Airman of the 3rd Quarter; NCO of the 1st Quarter; Airman of the Year 2018; NCO of the Year 2018 and three Defender of the Month awards.
