Educators from Albuquerque Public Schools will be here Feb. 14 to answer questions and provide information about the school district for Kirtland families. The town hall will be held from 1-2:30 p.m. at the Mountain View Club.

Dr. Elizabeth Everitt, superintendent of APS, will attend the town hall with principals, board members and staff members from the district.

"The purpose is to provide a forum for APS to brief a wide audience on what is going on with APS," Chief Master Sgt. Chuck Crisler, superintendent of the 377th Mission Support Group, said. Acting as the facilitator for the meeting, Chief Crisler said the town hall will be an informal meeting where parents can ask questions about the district and its programs and receive information from educators.

Chief Crisler encourages any parents of school-aged children or children that are close to entering school to attend the town hall. Although questions and comments are encouraged, Chief Crisler asks that they be broad, applying to the majority of the audience. Any specific questions about teachers, students or specific problems should be addressed to the administration of the child's school.

"When you hear what they (APS) are doing, it's impressive... APS is building a lot of new schools and have a lot of plans. There are a lot of neat things going on," Chief Crisler said.

He said the town hall will allow families to see what APS is doing and what kinds of programs they are launching and maintaining. The forum will also provide open communication between the district and personnel here.

APS is one of the largest school districts in the country with more than 87,000 students enrolled. Along with traditional schools, APS also offers alternative school programs such as evening classes and the Career Enrichment Center. The district offers numerous extracurricular activities including intramural sports, National Honor Society and Students Against Drunk Driving.

In a statement from the APS Web site, Dr. Everitt said, "The teachers, administration and employees of APS have made a promise to Albuquerque and its children - we will not fail you."
