2013 Cookie Drive seeks donations Published Dec. 2, 2013 By 377th Air Base Wing Public Affairs KIRTLAND AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- Being away from home during the holiday season is one of the harder things our young Airmen experience during their first years in the Air Force, and Team Kirtland is hoping to ensure they know they are cared for through the annual Team Kirtland Airman Cookie Drive. This year's cookie drive aims to give almost 6,600 cookies to more than 525 Airmen living in the base dormitories. While the drive is sponorsored by the Kirtland's Spouses Club, the club is not the sole source for baked goods. "We rely heavily on the generous donations from our local base community," said Kim Miller, wife of Col. Tom Miller, 377th Air Base Wing commander, and advisor for the Kirtland Spouses Club. Bakers are asked to bring holiday and Christmas cookies to the Mountain View Club Dec. 11. Cookies can be dropped off from 6:30 to 11:30 a.m. The cookies will then be divided and packaged in "festive cheer" to be delivered by first sergeants to dorm rooms. Volunteers can donate cookies, and can also support the project by donating time in assembling the cookie packages. "Imagine coming back to the dorms after a long day of work to see a plate of cookies waiting and the whole of Team Kirtland wishing you a happy holiday season," said Elise Thomasson, who is helping organize the event. "We hope it will make our Airmen's holiday season just a little brighter." She added that the KSC needs everyone's help in making the cookie drive a success.
