A funeral was held today for Jesse Hawkins, a member of Team Kirtland who was killed in a traffic accident on base Dec. 4.

Hawkins, a Lockheed Martin employee who worked as a program and site manager at the Distributed Mission Operations Center, was struck by a commercial vehicle while riding a bicycle near Kirtland Avenue and Lowry Road.

"As we join Jesse's family and friends in mourning his loss, we will remember him with deep respect and gratitude for his service to Lockheed Martin and to our country," said Jon Rambeau, vice president and general manager of Lockheed Martin Training and Logistics Solutions.

Col. Tom Miller, 377th Air Base Wing commander, also gave his condolences to friends and family of Hawkins, who was a former member of the U.S. Marine Corps.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to Mr. Hawkins' family and friends in their time of grief," Miller said in a statement.

Rambeau encouraged those who would like to offer personal messages of sympathy to send their sentiments to mst-tls.communications@lmco.com. The messages are to be compiled into a book of condolences for the family.

Hawkins' family has requested that in lieu of sending flowers, a donation be made to one of his two favorite charities, Project Healing Waters or the Wounded Warrior Project.
