Fitness class offers something for everyone Published June 5, 2015 By Lee Ross Nucleus editor KIRTLAND AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- Audri Saylors is taking Airmen and a few others back to basics. A certified fitness instructor, Saylors instructs a fitness class at the East Fitness Center every Monday at 3. Anyone with base access can attend the free classes, which are also offered through a different instructor on Wednesdays, also at 3 p.m. with from a different instructor. "I try really hard to accommodate all fitness levels," Saylors said. "Whether it is your first class or you've been athletic all your life." She has taught people from age 16 to 75, she said. Capt. Amber Allardice, who works at the Air Force Safety Center, said Saylors has a great sense of the physical abilities of her students. Allardice said she regularly sees Saylors spot students who are able to add five or ten pounds to the weights they're working with. "She challenges us and doesn't let us slack off," Allardice said. "There aren't too many workout classes you look forward to like this one." Saylors, who graduated from Santa Fe High, said she spent her formative years in New York and California working as a professional dancer. She danced and studied for some prestigious dance companies, including Alonzo King Lines Ballet in San Francisco. "It really wasn't the world I wanted to live in," she said. "It was dog eat dog." Saylors is now a mother of three married to 1st Lt. Keith Allen Saylors Jr. of the 377th Security Forces Group. She still gets to dance when she teaches Zumba, which "feeds her soul," she said. Saylors has also studied as a certified physical trainer and several styles of fitness training, including P90X. That training pays off for Saylors' students, Allardice said, adding that each class feels fresh. "Every week, the workout is different," she said.
