Practice courtesy on the multi-use recreational pathways Published Dec. 20, 2007 KIRTLAND AIR FORCE BASE, New Mexico -- Who has the right-of-way and who should yield on the multi-use recreational pathways? There have been a few reports of near misses between bicycles and joggers. On Kirtland AFB, the commander has authorized posting signs that require bicycles to yield to joggers. The Kirtland AFB multi-use recreational pathways are available for a multitude of activities, including walking, running, jogging, bicycling and skate boarding. Keep in mind; they are used by many people and many activities. Courtesy should prompt us to respect other users' rights. Make the effort to follow a few rules of the road. If you are overtaking individuals ahead of you, provide a warning before passing and pass on the left if possible. As you approach other users, give them a warning sign that you will be passing on the right or left. Do not crowd, run into or push your way through a formation or group of joggers. Keep in mind that we all use the pathways, and not everyone is focused on a six-minute mile.
