Program gives students chance to earn while they learn Published Sept. 9, 2008 KIRTLAND AIR FORCE BASE, New Mexico -- The Student Career Experience Program, or SCEP, is an employment program that provides high school and college students valuable work experience in the Defense Commissary Agency with the potential for non-competitive conversion into permanent employment. Am I eligible to participate? Yes, if you: · Are a U.S. citizen · Are actively enrolled in an accredited institution at least half-time, and working towards a degree or diploma · Are at least 16 years old · Are in good academic standing Additional eligibility requirements may apply. Per Department of Labor regulations under age youths may not perform hazardous jobs and may only work limited hours that do not interfere with the student's academic schedules. What is the hourly pay? Pay varies based on grade at which employed and geographic location. How long am I eligible? Academic enrollment is a mandatory student program requirement. As long as you maintain your academic enrollment you are eligible for this program. If you discontinue your education, your SCEP employment will end. First, visit the Kirtland AFB Commissary to pick up an application packet. Then complete the application(s) and submit documentation. Students must submit a completed OF-612, Optional Application for Employment or a resume (that includes your citizenship status, your academic major and anticipated graduation date) with your academic transcripts. Include a cover letter explaining your interest in obtaining student employment. If you do not have academic transcripts, an official letter from your academic institution may be used to verify enrollment. If you choose to use a resume, the resume must include your name, address, social security number, country of citizenship, the title of the job for which you are applying, your education, your work experience and a list of any awards you have received. In addition, all applicants must complete an OF-306, Declaration for Federal Employment. Completion of OPM 1635, Welfare to Work Program, if applicable, is requested but not required.
