Veterans Day observance begins with parade

The Roadrunner Convoy, New Mexico Military Vehicle Preservation Association along with the United Veterans Council of New Mexico, Kirtland AFB and the City of Albuquerque will hold a Veterans Day parade and ceremony at the New Mexico Veterans Memorial, Nov. 11.

The parade will start at 9 a.m. at Bullhead Park then proceed past the Raymond G. Murphy Veterans Affairs Medical Center east on Gibson Boulevard to Louisiana Boulevard and then north to the New Mexico Veterans Memorial, 1100 Louisiana Boulevard, SE.

There will be a number of events occurring during the ceremony including a parade of the 50 state flags by Kirtland AFB, Veterans Day proclamations, a flyover by the 150th Fighter Wing, New Mexico Air National Guard, a cannon salute by the Artillery Company of New Mexico and a keynote address by Congresswoman Heather Wilson.

Kirtland military members who would like to carry a state flag during the ceremony should contact Capt. Mark Hamilton, 846-4393 by 4:30 p.m. Nov. 7

There will be a musical prelude at the Veterans Memorial from 9-10 a.m. starting with the 44th Army Band, New Mexico Army National Guard followed at 9:30 a.m. by the High Desert Pipes and Drums. The 44th Army Band will perform again at 9:50 a.m. The ceremony, a tribute to fallen warriors, will begin at 10 a.m. and end at noon.

The day of observance honors all men and women in uniform, past, present and future with a special emphasis on the United States Army.
