Joint Non-Lethal Weapons Directorate seeks Clear-a-Space proposals

  • Published
The Department of Defense's Joint Non-Lethal Weapons Directorate has posted a new Clear-a-Space Broad Area Announcement on its Web site at  https://www.jnlwp.com/admin/solicitations.asp.

The JNLWD is seeking proposals for the research, development and demonstration of next-generation non-lethal weapons that provide the capability to clear targeted personnel from confined/indoor spaces before friendly force entry, as well as non-lethal weapons that provide the capability to disable individuals within confined/indoor spaces before friendly-force entry.

The objective of this BAA is to stimulate the research, development and rapid prototyping of non-lethal weapon technologies that address these high-priority joint non-lethal capability gaps specific to personnel clearing and disabling missions.

Important dates:
· Clear-a-Space BAA proposals due: Dec. 8, 2009
· Clear-a-Space BAA closes: March 31, 2010

The JNLWD appreciates organizations that are interested in furthering the development of the next generation of non-lethal weapons.

The Department of Defense defines non-lethal weapons as "weapons, devices and munitions that are explicitly designed and primarily employed to incapacitate targeted personnel or materiel immediately, while minimizing fatalities, permanent injury to personnel and undesired damage to property in the target area or environment. Non-lethal weapons are intended to have reversible effects on personnel and materiel."

Non-lethal weapons provide warfighters with escalation-of-force options when lethal force is not the best first response.
