North Pole resident Santa Claus is coming to Kirtland AFB for the annual tree lighting ceremony Friday, Dec. 4 at 5 p.m. near the base chapel here.

The Kirtland AFB Chapel choir will begin with a musical prelude at 5:15 p.m. followed by the opening remarks and lighting of the tree by Col. Michael S. Duvall, 377th Air Base Wing commander.

Base traditions will continue with the judge's announcement for the best card decoration with cash prizes of $300 for first place, $200 for second place and $100 for third place. The card judging will take place today at Pershing Park by a panel of three judges. Cards are judged on theme, creativity, materials, color, skill and workmanship.

Children will then be greeted by Mr. Claus and his elves, to include members from the Kirtland AFB Fire Department, and then invited to enjoy refreshments at the Chapel Annex to conclude the events.
