Effective immediately, Retreat is being played over Giant Voice every day at 5 p.m. As a reminder, both military and civilians outdoors render proper respect to the flag when the National Anthem begins. Vehicle drivers stop in place until after the last note of the music sounds. Military members not in vehicles should stop and face the flag or, if the flag is not visible, face the music and render proper salute. Civilians not in vehicles should stop and render proper courtesies by removing headgear and placing the right hand over the heart.

At 10 p.m., Taps will also be played over Giant Voice, signaling the end of day, or "lights out." Unless played during a military ceremony, there are no formal protocol procedures required during Taps (Reference: AFI 34-1201, Protocol, paragraph 2.2.0.)
