Kirtland AFB celebrates Armed Forces Week

As part of Armed Forces Week, Kirtland AFB is taking part in a series of events on base and in the community in mid-May.

In addition to visiting multiple sites on base, Gen. Donald J. Hoffman, Air Force Materiel Command commander, will deliver the keynote speech May 15 at the Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce's Armed Forces Banquet at the Isleta Hard Rock Casino and Hotel in Albuquerque. The fitness-minded can participate May 16 in their choice among a half-marathon at 7 a.m., a 5K run/walk at 7:30 a.m., and a free 1-mile run at 8 a.m. for children younger than 12. All events start at the Albuquerque Veterans Memorial, 1100 Louisiana Blvd. SE. Those who want to enjoy watching professional baseball can buy discounted tickets for the Albuquerque Isotopes game against the Las Vegas 51's. Military Appreciation Night is Saturday, May 22, with the first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m. Military presence at the game will include the Joint Honor Guard presenting the colors, the singing of the National Anthem, and throwing out the first pitch.

Active-duty, retired, Guard, Reserve, veterans, and ROTC cadets and their families and friends can buy tickets for $7 at www.albuquerquebaseball.com.

Ticket-buyers can pick up their tickets at the stadium three days after they order or get them at the stadium "will call" window on game day. Military ID cardholders can also get tickets at the stadium on game day. Fans can also stay after the game for a fireworks display.

Deadline to order tickets is May 18.
