KAFB firefighters join efforts Published July 1, 2011 By 377th Air Base Wing Public Affairs 377th Air Base Wing Public Affairs Kirtland Air Force Base, NM -- Six firefighters from Kirtland AFB are responding to a request for mutual aid support from state officials for the Las Conchas fire at Los Alamos. The Kirtland AFB team's focus will be on protecting structures in the area, using a structural pumper and fire water tanker to support firefighting efforts. Col. Robert Maness, 377th Air Base Wing commander, said, "This is another example of the cooperative efforts between Kirtland AFB and the surrounding communities." The support request came from state authorities at the Incident Base Office in Santa Fe, N.M.
