Employment program helps spouses find jobs

For the sixth year, the Airman and Family Readiness Center is sponsoring the Spouse Employment Training course at Kirtland Air Force Base.

The program is funded by the Air Force Aid Society and originated to assist active-duty Air Force spouses improve their skills and enhance their employment opportunities.

The course focuses on six hours of computer skills training, eight hours of skill assessment and coaching, and 12 hours of preparing for employment prospects.

"Spouses have an opportunity to improve their skills and knowledge, to prepare them for the job market," said Ellen Fields, Employment Assistance Coordinator at the A&FRC.

Attendees will receive training customized to match local and national requirements that employers look for when hiring. The training programs will help provide spouses entry-level skills for potential job opportunities.

"The Spouse Employment and Training Program not only helps improve spouses' abilities, but it also may help a family's financial status, and provides more opportunities for better employment."

This training is free to all active-duty spouses at Kirtland Air Force Base; however, space is limited.
