Airman 1st Class Monte D. Murillo, 550th Aircraft Maintenance Unit, and Airman 1st Class Joseph J. Medley, 58th Maintenance Operations Squadron, ran as members of the Air Force Materiel Command men's half-marathon team. Out of the 4,666 half-marathon participants, Murillo finished in 15th place, running the race in 1 hour, 17 minutes and 44 seconds. Medley finished 63rd, running the race in 1:28:46. "I'm proud of Monte and Joe," said Zac Holmes, Kirtland AFB Fitness Assessment Cell Specialist and Murillo and Medley's running coach. "Placing 15th and 63rd overall out of 4,666 participants in the half-marathon is a pretty good accomplishment and a great representation of Kirtland AFB." Wright-Patterson AFB has hosted the marathon since 1997. "The hospitality Wright-Patterson AFB provided was second to none," said Medley. "All I can say is thanks to Zac for his time and effort, and thanks to my shop for being supportive and helpful in the process of getting me out there. I feel I can do better. Hopefully, next year I can prove that to be the case." The Air Force Marathon is sanctioned by the USA Track & Field Association and is a qualifier for the Boston Marathon. A record number -- More than 13,000 participants -- ran the 10K, half-marathon and marathon, along with representatives from every state and 15 countries.
