Harencak nominated for second star Published Feb. 8, 2012 377th Air Base Wing Public Affairs Kirtland Air Force Base -- Air Force officials announced Feb. 8 that Brig. Gen. Garrett Harencak, Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center commander at Kirtland Air Force Base, has been nominated by President Barack Obama for promotion to major general. The nomination must be confirmed by the Senate. Harencak, a 1983 graduate of the Air Force Academy, is a command pilot with more than 3,000 flight hours in the B-52G, B-1B and B-2. He has previously commanded the 7th Bomb Wing at Dyess AFB, Texas, and the 509th Bomb Wing at Whiteman AFB, Mo. Harencak has been the AFNWC commander since Jan 2011. Before his current assignment, he was Principal Assistant Deputy Administrator for Military Application, Office of Defense Programs, National Nuclear Security Administration, Department of Energy, Washington, D.C.
